Pros & Cons of Pianos and Keyboards

Pianos vs keyboards; what's the difference? Which is better? Which should you buy? These are common questions that a beginner musician may ask. The best way to find the answer is to read about each of the different types of keyboard/pianos available; then, armed with this knowledge, go to a music store and look around. Make sure that what looks good on paper (a keyboard because it is affordable) will actually work for you (you enjoy playing the instrument).

Don't be afraid to go to a music store and browse. You may even return a few times for a second or third look. A good merchant will understand that you may need a few visits before you are ready to make a purchase. Ask as many questions as you like and give a few of the keyboards/pianos a test drive! No one expects you to buy the instrument without trying it first.


Things to Consider: As you might expect, there are pros and cons to each of the different instruments that are available on the market. Your decision as to which is best suited for your life situation should be based on:

        ♪ price........................ can you afford it?
        ♪ efficiency of space..... do you have room for it?
        ♪ responsiveness.......... are the keys too stiff?
        ♪ quality of sound......... does it sound pleasant? and
        ♪ appearance............... do you love the look?
